Symetra Tour life isn’t easy and the pandemic didn’t make it any better.
Whenever possible, players like to have family and friends be a part of their careers. A couple of moms are taking that a step further.
Lora Brooks is caddying for her daughter, Sierra, this summer. It helps with nerves, for both of them.
“I had a hard time getting her out to watch me play, she just gets too nervous, ” Sierra said. “I said, just come caddy for me so I convinced her and having her out there is so nice, she actually enjoys being a part of it in that way and it’s calming.”
Carley Cox also has her mom, Jennifer, on the bag. “We have fun traveling together, she says caddying is like being a mom, watching out for me and taking care of my needs.” Carley says.
There is also the financial aspect. Traveling, hotels and caddies allows expenses to pile up and while the players would love to have caddies, it’s just one more expense.
“Luckily, she’s not charging yet. I’m hoping that she won’t with the good golfing that it’s producing,” Sierra says.
It is helping both Sierra and Carley. Brooks shot a 67 in the second round and is five-under par. Cox was one of the co-leaders after a first round 66.
