ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wilson Brauer (McQuaid Jesuit) hurled four-plus scoreless innings in a pair of appearances to help the Orioles to four wins, and Aidan Wallace produced 11 runs in three Monarchs’ victories. The pair were named Interstate Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher and Player of the week (June 14-20) as announced by the ICBL on Monday.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK (6/14-6/20)
Aidan Wallace, Monarchs
Wallace collected six base hits over the past week including four of the extra-base nature. The Monarchs infielder homered and drove in four runs in a 12-3 win over the Cardinals and followed with three RBI in a 10-3 victory later in the week over that same Cardinal team. Wallace has the early lead in the ICBL with two home runs to go with two doubles, eight RBI and three runs scored.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK (6/14-6/20)
Wilson Brauer, Orioles/McQuaid Jesuit
In Brauer’s first outing of the summer, the recent high school graduate entered with runners on second and third, one out and three runs in. The right-hander retired two of the next four and went on to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings in an 11-5 Orioles win. Brauer finished the week with 10 strike outs in 4.2 innings of work.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK (6/14-6/20)
Cliff Genge, Monarchs/Niagara County Community College
Fr. RHP Rush-Henrietta
Genge struck out 17 in eight innings of work over two starts. The right-hander, who picked up the win in Niagara County CC’s 14-4 victory over Coastal Bend in the recent NJCAA Division III World Series, issued four walks during the week.
Alumni Update:
Ernie Clement (Prospects League 2012) collected his first major-league hit in a 7-2 Cleveland Indians victory over Baltimore on June 15th. Clement later scored. The former Brighton and University of Virginia standout has appeared in three more games with Cleveland. He has a double with three runs scored and an RBI.
Greg Cullen (Prospects 2013, RCBL 2014-’15) was recently promoted to the Bowie Baysox of the Double-A Northeast League. A 15th round pick of the Atlanta Braves in the 2019 MLB Draft, Cullen was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in November of 2020. Cullen was hitting .281 with Class A Delmarva before the promotion.
Phil Ferranti (Orioles 2020) is hitting .319 with four doubles and nine RBI with the Martinsville Mustangs of the Coastal Plain League.
Tyler Griggs (Flyin’ Fish 2020) finished with team-highs in batting average (.379) and on-base percentage (.487) for Central Arizona which advanced to the championship of the NJCAA DI World Series.
