WEBSTER, N.Y. — Dylan Norton reached base all four times he came to the plate and scored the eventual winning run in the seventh inning as Fairport downed Webster Schroeder, 6-5 in Monroe County Division I Baseball action, Monday night.

With Fairport leading 5-3, Norton led the seventh with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. The Red Raiders’ second baseman stole third and came home on a Braden Consaul RBI ground out.

The win was the first under first-year head coach Tom Caputo.

“The kids played great,” he said.

Norton finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and also reached base on a hit by pitch.

“That kid is just all heart,” Caputo said. “He just came out there swinging. That’s what we got to do.”

Norton started the scoring in the top of first when Fairport pushed across a pair. He added another in fifth to give the Red Raiders a 5-1 advantage.

Consaul walked and scored on a Patrick Unger double in the fourth. DJ Stoianovich eventually brought home Unger with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Consaul picked up the win. The junior right-hander struck out eight over four and-a-third innings.

“This is his first time really pitching at length,” Caputo said of the quarterback on the school’s football team. “We eased him in with his first start. He hit his spots. He pitched great.”

Matt Terzo came on in relief in the fifth with two runs in and two on base and struck out the first two batters he faced to escape the jam. Terzo worked a scoreless sixth before allowing two runs in the seventh.

Schroeder’s Ryan Merkov drove in a run with a single, and Braden Pumputis added an RBI sacrifice in the fifth when the Warriors cut the deficit to three at 5-3. The Warriors threatened in the seventh. Pumputis led with a walk. Two outs later, John Schoenhardt singled through the left side. Zach Hosmer’s fly ball was dropped and two runs scored bringing the winning run to the plate.

Terzo ended the threat with a ground ball.

The same two teams will meet again on Wednesday.
