Scotti and Teabout combine for no hitter; Newark takes season opener

Julius Teabout and Josh Scotti combined on a no-hitter, and Newark christened its new turf field with a win. Teabout, a senior left hander, struck out 13 and walked two over six innings. When Teabout reached the maximum number of pitches, Scotti came on to pitch the seventh inning. The senior right hander struck out two and walked one. Scotti sealed the win getting a come-backer for the final out. Chaz Garling scored on a passed ball in the fourth and Preston Berrios came home on a throwing error in the bottom of the sixth.

Chris Finocchario struck out 15 and allowed one hit over five shutout innings to pick up the win. The junior also tripled and scored a run. Alex Wootton connected on a two-run home run and scored another run to lead the offense. Christian Morrison finished 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Noah Brooks doubled and scored twice. David Luke finished 1-for-2. Ian Goodness fanned two in a scoreless inning of relief work and went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and run scored. Connor Walters went 2-for-2 with a double for Midlakes.
