Sophomore Cam Mesh joined his brother Connor in the Rangers backfield last season for their Sectional semifinal against East after spending the season as the JV quarterback. That experience has allowed him to roll right into the signal caller role. Dom Comella rushed for 81 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead Canandaigua. The senior running back also had an 84-yard kickoff return. Bryan Boldring completed 2-of-4 passes for 38 yards including a 33-yard touchdown pass to Sam Bennett. Jaxon Grant returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown.

Midway through the third quarter of Thursday’s Class C football game, Kyle Slywka took a pitch from quarterback Brian Oddi and broke left before setting up to throw. The senior missed his mark downfield in trying to connect with younger brother, Nolan.
Two plays later, the Waterloo Indians used that same halfback option. This time the result was different. Nolan Slywka ran under his brother’s pass for a 62-yard touchdown. READ MORE.

Coming into Thursday night’s contest, the narrative about Irondequoit was its offense scoring 98 points through two games. This time, it was all about the clutch defense. Aquinas picked up its second straight win behind quarterback Tyler Szalkowski’s 314 passing yards. Szalkowski came into the game with 627 yards which led Class AA, and now has 941 yards through three games. The quarterback had two passing touchdowns and one interception. Will Benjamin led the Li’l Irish on the ground with a team-high 62 rushing yards alongside two touchdowns. Benjamin also hauled in six passes for a 101 yards. Eimaj Giddens had six carries for 40 yards, and reached the end zone twice on the ground. Manny Russell scored a touchdown on a pass from Szalkowski, and he finished with 100 receiving yards. Zach Kelsey ended with 41 receiving yards and a touchdown, andscored a touchdown on the defensive side after recovering a fumble. Jahlil Johnson led the defense with nine tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery.
For Fairport, junior Joe Giggie accumulated 315 yards on the ground on 38 attempts. Giggie reached pay dirt four times and had one catch for 25 yards. The running back did it on the defensive side with an interception and a 53-yard return. Fullback Kaevon Rice had 30 rushing yards and one touchdown, and led the Red Raider defense with 10 tackles.

Justus Ross-Simmons paced the East offense with a team-high 203 rushing yards. Ross-Simmons found the end zone once in his 18 carries. Seven McGee scored the only other East touchdown through the ground. McGee totaled 102 yards on nine carries. Cebastian Searight led the Eagles defense with 18 tackles including two for loss and one interception. This is the second straight win for East.

Gates-Chili won its first game of the season behind De’marion Mewborn’s 91 rushing yards. Scoreless through one quarter, the Spartans struck first with 7:06 remaining in the first half on a Mewborn five-yard rushing touchdown. The Spartans added to its lead with an Andrew Newcombe five-yard rushing touchdown to make it 14-0 at the half. The lone score in the second half came on a Jonathan Vance one-yard rushing touchdown. Marshall McRae converted all three extra points. Newcombe finished with 88 yards on the ground, and Neftali Cruz had 11 carries for 62 yards. The Spartans ended with 240 rushing yards as a team. Adam Williams led the defense with a team-high six and a half tackles including two for loss. Joe Garcia recorded a sack, and Mewborn and Newcombe shared a sack. Gates-Chili allowed just 24 total yards in the game.

Alex Minnehan led Livonia to its third straight win with a team-high 277 rushing yards. The running back carried the ball 25 times, and scored three touchdowns. Minnehan leads Class C in yards on the ground with 711 through three games.

Dion Mather’s four total touchdowns led East Rochester/Gananda to its first win of the season. Mather finished 9-of-18 for 192 yards and three touchdowns through the air and he added one on the ground. Mather scored the first two touchdowns of the game, the first being a 71-yard strike to Manny Sepulveda, and the other being a one-yard run. Wide Receiver Jerry Brongo hauled in two touchdowns in the third quarter, one from 51 yards out and the other from 33. Chauncey Gilbert had a 58-yard touchdown run in the third quarter extending the Bomber lead to 34-14. Gilbert ended the game with 114 rushing yards on nine carries. Michael Daniels reached the end zone via a 23-yard fumble return, and Adrian Letta capped the Bomber scoring with a six-yard touchdown run. Letta and Sepulveda each recorded a team-high six tackles on the defensive end.

Alex Panepento accounted for three touchdowns and 111 yards of offense and the LeRoy defense shut out its third straight opponent. Panepento threw for 55 yards and a pair of touchdowns while rushing for 66 yards and one touchdown. Adam Risewick added a pair of touchdowns. Nate Andrews rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown. LeRoy has outscored opponents 94-0 through three games this season.

Zach Strzelec rushed 27 times for 185 yards and two touchdowns along with the game-tying two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter. Wyatt Kauffman compiled 83 yards on 16 carries and scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime. Jake Dressel completed 5-of-8 passes for 78 yards. Jeremiah Donohue led the Attica defense with 13 tackles. Lucas Johnson made 12 tackles. Kauffman and Strzelec had 10 tackles apiece.
