This Day in Red Wings History: Jimenez gets skidding Wings on right side of the ledger

By PAUL GOTHAM

D’Angelo Jimenez did not earn a reputation as a power hitter during his time in the Bigs, but on this day in 2010 the Dominican Republic native powered the visiting Rochester Red Wings to a 12-10 win over the Charlotte Knights.

Jimenez blasted his fourth and fifth home runs of the season and drove in six runs to help the Wings stop a nine-game losing streak. The Wings third baseman connected on a two-run shot in the third and a three-run home run in the seventh. He added an RBI groundout in the first inning.

The win was the first for the Wings (40-72) over the Knights in 2010.

Pat Neshek set down two batters in the seventh and picked up the win in relief. David Bromberg started and worked five-plus innings. The right-hander allowed five runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk. He struck out four.

Brendan Harris and Brock Peterson also went deep for the Wings. Harris connected on a three-run shot with two outs in the eighth for the final margin.

Jimenez played 641 Major League games between 1999 and 2007 with the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati, Texas, Oakland and Washington. Twice he finished with double-digit round-trippers in a season hitting 14 in 2003 and 12 and 2004. He collected 36 home runs in all during his time in the Majors.
