Ryan Dineen was the ace for a Greece Athena squad which exploded for a 20-3 record in 2019 and finished as the Class A1 sectional runner-up as the top seed. The 5-foot-10 right-hander posted an 8-1 record with a 0.79 earned run average in 18 appearances last season.
Dineen’s victories, earned run average and appearances all led the Athena staff. Then a junior he paced the Trojans in batters faced (213), innings (53 1/3) and pitches thrown (678) as well. Dineen finished second on the team in opponents’ batting average (.162) and third in strikeouts (25).
At the dish, Dineen collected two doubles and four RBI in eight plate appearances. The senior ace scored three runs and drew a walk.
Defensively on the mound, at third base and in the outfield, Dineen only committed one error in 15 total chances (.933 fielding percentage). The 5-foot-10 senior collected four assists and 10 put outs.
The senior grabbed First Team All-County Honors in Monroe County Division III.
Greece Athena’s 20 victories included wins over Class B1 sectional semifinalist Greece Odyssey, Class A1 sectional semifinalist Irondequoit, Pittsford Mendon twice (7-5 on April 24th and 4-3 in the sectional semifinals), Class A2 sectional champion Pittsford Sutherland, A2 sectional runner-up Eastridge, Class AA sectional semifinalist Hilton, Class B1 sectional champion Batavia and Class A state semifinalist Canandaigua.
