Avoca sophomore Pacey Hopkins contributed to a Tigers squad that sported a 23-1 record, a sectional title and advanced to regionals. The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 11 points, 4.5 assists, 4.3 steals and 3.4 rebounds per game.
In three games over winter break, Hopkins combined for 66 points (22 points per game) and scored 20-plus points in every contest. On December 20th in a 78-36 win at Addison, the 5-foot-10 sophomore netted a season-high 25 points. In the game, Hopkins scored at least five points in every quarter and knocked down five long-range shots as well.
The 5-foot-10 guard continued his strong play with 20 points on January 3rd in a 69-40 win at Honeoye and 21 on January 6th in a 69-36 win over Dundee. Other standout performances by Hopkins included 15 points and 11 steals on December 13th in a 92-31 win over Naples and nine points and 13 assists on January 8th in an 89-26 win over Alfred-Almond.
A starter on Avoca’s sectional champion baseball team last spring and soccer in the fall, he enters his junior year having already started on three sectional title teams. Last spring, the 5-foot-10 guard played AAU for the Finger Lakes Fury. With the graduation of Brady Brandow, Tristian Stark and Devin Stowe, Hopkins will be featured in Avoca’s lineup with Jonathan Jensen.
