NE Douglass junior Trynzeir Parker energized a Panthers squad to their second sectional final appearance in three years as the No. 7 seed. The 6-foot guard averaged 12.8 points, 6.2 boards, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals in 23 games played. Parker shot 43 percent (120-of-281) from the field, including 48 percent (110-of-228) from inside the arc.
The junior guard scored double figures in 16 games. Parker reached the 20-point plateau four times, including a career-high 27 twice: January 29th in an 80-63 win at World of Inquiry and the first round of sectionals against Monroe. At World of Inquiry, the 6-foot junior added five free throws and seven steals. In the 91-60 win over Monroe, Parker converted 12 field goals.
Parker’s other 20-point games were 26 points plus seven steals on December 3rd in a 66-64 win at Early College and 21 points on December 27th in an 82-48 win over East Rochester. The junior guard swatted a shot on seven separate occasions knocked down two long-range shots on three times, dished out six assists on February 15th at Victor and grabbed 11 boards in the sectional quarterfinals against Northstar Christian.
Last spring, Parker played AAU for ICC Truth. With the graduation of leading scorers Adonis Flagler, Nicolas Jeanty and Lamar Lovelace, Parker will play a increased role in the NE Douglass attack.
