Wilson Magnet’s Christian Harmon was the leading scorer on a Wildcats squad that advanced to the Class A2 sectional quarterfinals as the No. 9 seed. The 6-foot-4 sophomore averaged 20.6 points, 9.8 boards, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 deflections per game. Harmon shot 44.8 percent (123-of-274) from the field compared to 32 percent last season, 36.6 percent (44-of-120) from long range and 76.4 percent (68-of-89) from the free throw line.
The sophomore forward scored 330 points in 16 games played. Harmon netted double figures in 15 contests and reached the 20-point plateau nine times, including a season-high 31 twice: February 11th at Leadership Academy and in the first round of sectionals against Vertus. In both games, Harmon converted a season-high 11 field goals and were part of a stretch in which the 6-foot-4 forward averaged 25.8 points and 14.0 rebounds over the last seven matchups of the year.
Other standout performances by Harmon included six assists on January 28th at Edison Tech, six three-pointers on December 4th at McQuaid, 11 free throws on February 15th against Pittsford Mendon and 11 field goals and 18 boards on February 14th at East High.
Harmon’s scoring average ranked fourth in the RCAC Upper Division behind McQuaid senior Kobe Long (24.0 PPG), Leadership Academy junior Maurice McKinney (21.8 PPG) and McQuaid senior Jermaine Taggart (21.3 PPG) and seventh overall in the RCAC as well behind NE Douglass senior Adonis Flagler (25.8 PPG), Long, School of the Arts junior Ethain Clarke-DeSouza (23.1 PPG), East High senior Zechariah Harris-Scott (22.8 PPG), McKinney and Taggart.
Harmon will head into his junior year along with classmates Zavarius Henry and Damel Turner as the core of the Wilson offense.
