Mendon looks to win fourth straight

Three-time champion Pittsford Mendon faces Irondequoit in a rematch of last year’s semifinal when the Girls’ Section V Class A championship tips off. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 IRONDEQUOIT EAGLES (19-3/Monroe County Division II) vs. No. 2 PITTSFORD MENDON VIKINGS (20-3/Monroe County Division III)

When: Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m.

Where: Gates-Chili High School

Last time they met: Mendon defeated Irondequoit, 63-49 in the semifinals of the 2019 Class A tournament.

How they match up: Irondequoit has won six straight and 17 of 18. The Eagles scored 59.9 points per game during the regular season and allowed 47.0.  Mendon has won 11 in a row and averaged 65.2 points per game while holding opponents to 38.2 points per game.

Players to watch for Irondequoit: Alahna Paige Sr. G 29.19 PPG, 3.7 APG; Leah Memmott Jr. G 9.2 PPG; Morgan Nicholas Sr. F/G 7.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG; Amiyah Nunn So. G 5.4 PPG.

Players to watch for Pittsford Mendon: Lexi Green Jr. G 19.7 PPG; Katie Bischoping Sr. F/G 13.4 PPG; Anaya Coleman So. G 12 PPG; Danielle Strauf So. G 9.9 PPG

History 101: Mendon has won three straight Class A titles including 2017 when the Lady Vikings beat Irondequoit in the finals. This will be Mendon’s sixth straight finals appearance.

What’s at stake: A spot in the NYS Class A Far West Regional against the Section VI champion.
