For the second straight year Bishop Kearney and Penfield will meet in the Section V Girls’ Class AA championship. Here’s the breakdown:
No. 1 PENFIELD PATRIOTS (20-2/Monroe County Division I) vs. No. 3 BISHOP KEARNEY KINGS (19-3/Independent)
When: Friday, March 6, 8 p.m.
Where: Gates-Chili High School
When they last met: Behind a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double from Taylor Norris, Kearney beat Penfield 56-44 when the two teams met in February. The loss was Penfield’s only setback to a Section V team this season.
How they match up: Penfield has won four straight and 15 of 16. The Patriots averaged 63.6 points per game during the regular season while allowing 42.5. Kearney has won 10 straight, losing only to out-of-section teams all season. BK scores 61.6 points per game, while holding opponents to 48.3.

History 101: Kearney is looking to win its third straight Section V title and sixth since 2014. Penfield is making its fourth finals appearance since 2015. The Patriots beat Hilton in the 2016 championship game.
