Victor relied on Connor Williams to extend its win streak to 15. Luke Melidona‘s Sports Center Top 10 worthy half-court shot lifted Irondequoit to its 11th straight win. Troy Leibert was a force on both ends of the floor in a split week for Brockport, and Jalen Rose-Hannah posted his second straight triple-double in Eastridge’s win this week.
The four earned Player of the Week (February 3-8) for their respective divisions as selected by Monroe County coaches.
Victor played one game this week, and it was a big one–especially for its big man. Rush-Henrietta felt the presence of the Blue Devils’ six-foot-11 center under the basket. READ MORE. The junior finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and three blocks, helping Victor clinch the program’s first league title since 2004. Also, with the 61-58 win, Victor moved to 15-0 on the season. Williams and the Blue Devils look to make it 16-0 when they face Pittsford Mendon at home on Wednesday, February 12.
Melidona and the Irondequoit Eagles appeared at No. 8 on Sports Center’s Top 10 plays, and rightfully so. Against Webster Thomas on Saturday, February 8, the senior guard banked a shot from beyond half court with the clock counting down from 2.7 seconds for a 55-53 win. Melidona’s “magic” capped an overall impressive game. READ MORE. He finished with 17 points, 15 in the second half and nine in the fourth quarter, three rebounds, and five assists. He shot 5-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from the line. Earlier in the week, Melidona contributed six points, three rebounds, and seven assists in the 72-44 win at Penfield. The Eagles will look to run their streak to a dozen on Wednesday when they travel to Pittsford Sutherland for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
Leibert finished with six points in a loss to Eastridge and eight points in a win against Greece Arcadia. The senior forward totaled 15 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and four charges between both games last week. Leibert and his Brockport team will travel to Honeoye Falls-Lima on Thursday, February 13.
In Eastridge’s last two games, one last week and one the week prior, Rose-Hannah registered triple-doubles. The senior guard averaged 13 points, 12 assists, 11 rebounds, and four steals between the two games, shooting 45 percent from the field. The 14-3 Lancers are set to face Penfield on Wednesday, February 12.
