BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Brockport girls’ basketball team opened with a 14-0 run on their way to a 68-44 win over Webster Thomas, Saturday afternoon.
Gisela Allen, Ella Fadale and Emma Laureano connected on two 3-pointers apiece in the first quarter as the Blue Devils cruised to their fifth win in as many outings.
“We obviously shot the ball really well,” Brockport head coach Justin Laureano said. “We’re not going to do that every single night. That’s something we just talked about right now (in the locker room).
“We got to make sure that we’re balanced where we’re putting the ball to the floor and getting to the basket and not always settling especially versus a zone because it’s a game of averages. Over time we’re not going to shoot it at 50 or 60 per cent. We’ve got to be able to get the ball inside, pound it inside or get the ball all the way to the basket.”
Fadale scored on back-to-back drives and freshman Ava Velletri connected on a triple and converted a pair of free throws late in the second quarter to help the Blue Devils push their lead to 42-22 heading into halftime.
“We have athletes; we knew that we could speed them up, make them uncomfortable and get into our game plan where we’re running and getting out and getting easy buckets,” Laureano said of his squad’s mindset to open the contest. “I was proud of the girls to be able to have the game plan and then execute it.”
Fadale finished with a game-high 19 points. The sophomore connected six times from the floor and hit five of six from the free throw line. She handed out five assists while collecting four steals and four rebounds.

“Ella is slowly becoming a silent team leader,” Laureano said. “Simply by her effort and how she’s able to execute the game plan, she’s able to keep everybody calm. She’s so difficult on the defensive end in terms of what she brings to the girl she’s guarding. She runs the offense flawlessly. As young as she is, she’s only going to continue to get better. She’s got a great future.”
Allen finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Devils. Velletri had 10 points and two assists. Emma Sodoma collected seven points and seven rebounds. Emma Laureano added eight points and two rebounds. Emily Vergari (4), Erynn Hogan (3), Nina Danno (2), Maggie Schultz (2) and Emma Stroup (1) rounded out the scoring for Brockport.
