EAST ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Four weeks and counting, the East Rochester boys’ soccer team remains at the top of the NYS Class C poll.

The lofty perch fits the Bombers well.

ER improved to 15-0-0 on the season Monday night with a 5-nil win over Wayne County league foe Marion.

“I try not to think too much of being first in the state,” said ER’s Chuck Domm.  “I’m thinking next game, beating teams that we’re playing and winning sectionals. I’m focused on the next game.”

Domm finished with three goals and an assist in Monday’s win. Section V’s leading scorer tallied twice in the opening moments of the second half when ER turned a 1-nil game into a decisive win.

“We didn’t make many changes,” he said of the approach to the second half. “We focused on finishing more. We were creating great chances, and we knew to keep going with our strategy and hammer some home.”

Domm set up his brother Russell Domm less than two minutes into the stanza. Chuck Domm pushed the ball to the touchline before crossing it where Russell Domm connected on a redirect just above the six-yard box.

“We just had a slow start,” Russell Domm noted. “We should have capped off some finishes in the first half. We really focused on that second half.”

“The combination play tonight was fantastic,” said head coach and dad Mike Domm. “We were moving off the ball, the one-twos that we were doing and getting baseline. We had good opportunities to finish.”

Chuck Domm completed the hat trick on an unassisted goal with 9:56 to go in the game. The junior attacker leads Section V with 71 points (27 goals/17 assists).

Monday’s win was ER’s second this year over Marion (11-4-0/8-3-0) and clinched the Wayne County title.

“It feels good, first time ever being league champs for us,” Russell Domm stated.  “All our hard work has finally paid off. All the practices are coming together for us to play well.

“Marion’s got a couple really good players. We just key-marked on those guys and locked them down our best.”

ER took the earlier meeting 6-1.

Monday night, senior keeper Michael Raschiatore made eight saves for the Bombers eighth clean sheet of the season. Mike Domm’s squad limited the chances for Marion’s leading scorer Francisco Cordova (17 goals/ 3 assists).

“He’s a handful,” Mike Domm said of the Black Knight. “But we were able to stay with him. As long as we don’t dive, our defense is going to be tough to score on.”

He went on to play two years at Mercyhurst College before finishing his collegiate career at SUNY Fredonia.
