ICBL Monday Wrap: Moffat strikes out 11; Wings relievers close out Lake Monsters

MONARCHS 1
Donovan Moffat (St. Bonaventure University) fanned 11 batters – six looking and five swinging – in six innings of work to earn the victory for the Flyin’ Fish (6-2). The senior pitcher allowed one run, four hits and two walks. Moffat retired six of the first seven batters he faced. The senior left-hander struck out a hitter in every inning he pitched as well.

Chris Butler (Keuka College), who was named Pitcher of the Week, retired the side in the seventh inning to earn the save.

Justin LoTemple (Alfred State College) singled up the middle and drove in Andrew Zibuck for the first run of the game in the opening frame.

James Sciortino went 2-for-3 at the dish with a walk and a run scored. The freshman second baseman singled to left field to bring in Hayden Ewell (Southern New Hampshire) as the Flyin’ Fish took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Ray Specht (Niagara County Community College) and Sean Sheets (Keuka College) both went 1-for-3 at the plate. Specht scored a run. Anthony Mashewske (Keuka College) connected for a hit and drew a walk. For the Monarchs (2-8), Tyler Broderick (Keuka College) singled to left field and drove in Noah Campanelli (St. John Fisher College) in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. Broderick drew a pair of walks as well. Patrick Bingham (SUNY Fredonia) and Will Porter (Rochester Institute Of Technology) both collected a base knock. Quin Ignaszak (Finger Lakes Community College) threw four innings of two-run ball. The sophomore right-hander allowed three hits, one walk and struck out six batters. Ignaszak retired the last seven hitters he faced.

LAKE MONSTERS 1
The relief duo of Frank Lauricella (Finger Lakes Community College) and Jadon Masucci (Alfred State College) held off a pair of key rallies as the Wings (3-4) won their third straight game. Lauricella came in with two outs in the fourth, runners on first and second and a 3-0 count. After walking the batter, the freshman left-hander struck out the next hitter he faced on a full count to preserve a 2-0 lead.

Masucci took the mound with two outs in the sixth and stranded runners at the corners with a strikeout.

Despite allowing back-to-back one-out singles in the seventh, Masucci fanned the next batter he faced and induced a groundball to short to earn the save.

Jayson Faynor (Genesee Community College) was awarded the victory, throwing 3 2/3 scoreless frames of two-hit ball. The sophomore right-hander allowed five walks and struck out three batters.

Shane Harisis (SUNY Brockport) snuck a single down the left field line, which allowed Ben Martin to score for a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Justin Graham (St. John Fisher College) went 2-for-3 at the dish and snagged a line drive at short in the fourth inning.

Ryan Hill (Monroe Community College) singled to left center to lead off the game and scored after Graham was caught in a rundown. For the Lake Monsters (2-5), Christian Montanez (Roger Williams University) singled to center field and drove in Nate Sanderson (Hilbert College) in the fifth inning. Tyler Coy went 2-for-4 at the plate. Michael Jamele (Merrimack College) and Jake Webb (Finger Lakes Community College) both connected for a hit. Webb drew a walk as well. Matt Petrossi hurled five innings of two-run ball and struck out five batters.
