IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Julianna Klimow improved to 4-2 on the season, and the Webster Thomas Titans downed Irondequoit, 7-1 in Monroe County Division II action, Thursday.

Klimow struck out nine without issuing a walk in a complete-game effort.

“She is great at mixing it up to make sure there isn’t a pattern, to make sure that she’s keeping batters on their toes,” Thomas head coach Emily Castro said. “They don’t know what’s coming. They’re always guessing.”

After allowing a two-out single in the first, the junior set down eight of the next nine batters faced. She took a shutout into the sixth inning.

“She’s great at fielding her own position,” Castro added. “She’s determined. She’s here to win every single time, and she does not give up. That’s the best part about her. She’s going to work hard every single day to give us exactly what we need. We can always count here.”

Klimow worked ahead to 20 of 26 batters and finished the game getting 10 ground ball outs. She threw 71 pitches (56 for strikes).

Caitlyn Parsons and Stella VanGee led four Titans with multiple hits on the day.

Parsons doubled in a run and later scored in a three-run first when the Titans sent seven to the plate and pushed across enough runs for the victory before Irondequoit’s first at-bat.

Klimow started the outburst with a one-out double. Abby Suhr followed an RBI single and then scored on the Parsons two-bagger. Sammy Wesley capped the inning with an RBI base hit.

Parsons finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored.

“She always comes up big for us,” Castro said of her clean-up hitter. “She works really hard at the plate. She’s solid at first base for us as well.”

VanGee went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Suhr had two hits in four at-bats with two RBI and two runs scored. Wesley doubled and drove in two with two hits.

Eighth-grader Marlayna Cartagena tossed a complete game for Irondequoit. She doubled and scored the lone Irondequoit run in the sixth. Eighth grader Emma Rovet singled and drove in a run.
