Last Monday, Joe Kuhn’s Irondequoit nine held a respectable record of six wins and three losses, including a 3-1 mark in league play – good enough for second place in Monroe County Division II. In the seven days since then, the Eagles knocked off a three-time sectional champ…twice, slowed the momentum of another and climbed to the top of the division.
Allowing just one run over 21 innings, Irondequoit finished 3-0 last week to earn Team of the Week. The Irondequoit nine handed Canandaigua (9-3) its first loss of the season last Monday with a 1-0 decision. Two days later, the Cooper Road denizens made it two in a row over the 2018 NYS Class A semifinalist with a 2-1 triumph. The Eagles closed the week with a decisive 7-0 win over Brighton (9-2). Irondequoit’s three wins came over opposing squads with a combined record of 23-3. Nick Serce leads the Irondequoit pitching staff hurling 31.2 scoreless innings.
We didn’t forget about…the Victor Blue Devils which stayed undefeated (6-0) in Monroe County Division I with three wins last week. Victor started 8-1 win over Penfield last Monday. Greece Athena also went 3-0 last week including a 3-2 victory over Eastridge in 10 innings. Livonia, No. 5 NYSSWA Class B, improved to 11-0 on the season with two wins in the past seven days, and Newark, No. 19 NYSSWA Class B, capped a 4-0 week with a 1-0 win over Lyons in the Canal Cup. A game in which Julius Teabout hurled a no-hitter.
