BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Ryan Dineen allowed one unearned run over four innings, and the Greece Athena baseball team jumped to an early lead and never looked back in an 11-3 victory over the Brockport Blue Devils, Tuesday.
Dineen allowed three hits, struck out two and did not surrender a walk. The junior right-hander needed just 53 pitches (31 for strikes) to pick up his varsity win. He retired the first seven batters he faced and nine of 10 to start the game.
Jorge Oropeza III sparked a five-run first inning when he plated two with a bases-loaded single.
Tyler Curtis started the inning when he reached on a hit by pitch. Casey Saucke II followed with a base hit, and Jayson Russell loaded the bases with another hit by pitch to set up Oropeza.
Vic Alongi brought in another run with a sacrifice, and Zach Geist capped the inning with a run-scoring single.
Athena added a run in the second and two more in the third to put the game out of reach.
Geist finished 3-for-3 on the day with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Oropeza was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Saucke worked three walks and crossed home plate twice. Justin Kimble had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.
Jagger Nucci struck out four over 2.2 innings of work. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks.
Brockport’s Tyler Henshaw and Troy Leibert collected two hits apiece. Sam Velletri had two RBI for the Blue Devils. Henshaw, Devyn Scheidt and Nick Nealon scored a run apiece.
The same two teams will meet again on Wednesday.
