
VICTOR, N.Y. — Lytoya Baker scored seven points including a pair of late free throws to clinch the win as the Bishop Kearney girls basketball team claimed the 2019 Section V Class AA title with a 58-54 victory over the Penfield Patriots, Saturday night at Victor High School
Baker collected 12 rebounds, six assists and three blocks in the win.
Teammate Saniaa Wilson finished with a game-high 21 points to go with 13 rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Marianna Freeman added 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and eight assists for BK which won its sixth sectional title in the past 10 years.
Kaia Goode scored nine points, grabbed seven boards, collected five steals to go with three assists and a block. Taylor Norris rounded out the Kearney scoring with five points. Norris had eight rebounds and two steals.
BK (21-1) led 12-10 after the first quarter and 26-23 at half.
Baylee Teal led three Patriots in double figures with 16 points. The junior point guard connected four times from the floor including three from 3-point land. She finished 5-of-5 from the free throw line. Teammate Nyara Simmons had 14 points including six in the second quarter. Brianne Moxley added 11 points.
Katie Rinere (5), Haley Emmick (4), Nina Nesselbush (2) and Jessica Rinere (2) also scored for Penfield (21-2). Both of Penfield’s losses this season were to Bishop Kearney.
BK moves on to the NYS Far West Regionals where they will face the Frontier vs. Williamsville-North winner.
