Leading 40-35 at halftime, the Pittsford Mendon Vikings started the third quarter on a 15-2 run for a 55-37 edge. Throughout the period, head coach Bob Nally’s squad outscored the Eastridge Lancers, 31-11 and surged to a 71-46 lead going into the fourth quarter. Tied at 26 at halftime, the Greece Athena Trojans held the Irondequoit Eagles to 19 points in the last 16 minutes of the game, including eight in the fourth quarter. Athena will meet Pittsford Mendon in Saturday’s Class A1 final. READ MORE.

No. 1 EAST (21-1) 53
No. 4 WAYNE (17-5) 36
Three scored in double figures, and East advanced to the Class A2 finals where it will meet Pittsford Sutherland. Dyllon Scott scored six of his team-high 16 points in the third quarter when East pushed its advantage to double digits at 36-23. Scott connected three times from 3-point land for the night. Teammate Chaz Washington added 14 points for the contest, and Zecharia Harris-Scott had 11. East will appear in its first sectional final since 2014 when the Eagles beat Edison Tech 49-46. Led by current University of Buffalo Bull, that East team eventually reached the NYSPHSAA Class A final. Wayne’s Nick Carmichael finished with a game-high 23 points. The senior forward closed out his career with 989 total points. Logan Blankenberg added 11 points. Blankenberg ended his career with 1,207 total points. East’s defense held Wayne 31.75 points under its season average of 67.75 points per game. Wayne had won the past two Section V Class A2 titles. Injuries nearly short-circuited the season of the Pittsford Sutherland boys’ basketball team. The subsequent response to those maladies have the Knights in position to win their first Section V title since 2016. Sutherland advances to play top-seeded East in the A2 finals. READ MORE.

No. 1 GREECE ODYSSEY (19-3) 67
No. 5 GENEVA (12-10) 48
Jaden Hartsfield accounted for seven of his game-high 21 points in the third quarter when Odyssey doubled up Geneva, 22-11 to take a 14-point lead into the final eight minutes of play. Hartsfield, who led Odyssey averaging 15.8 points per game during regular season, connected three times from the floor during the stanza including his only 3-pointer of the night. Teammate Travon Harper added 10 points for the contest. Presten Mathis had nine points while Ray Colbert, Romell Griffin and Aric Williams scored six apiece. Korey Canton (4), Jonah Holloway (3) and Dylan Kolmetz (2) rounded out the scoring for Odyssey which advanced to its second straight sectional final. The Leopards will play the winner of the Newark/Hornell matchup which was postponed to Thursday night. Reid Patchett paced Geneva with 12 points. Akim Hudson added eight. Nick Askin, Parker Bossard and Liam Ryan had five apiece for the Panthers. Kaya Parara (4), Dante Reid (3), Luke Lawson (2) and Jagger Kerr (2) also scored for Geneva.
