Section V Semifinal Preview: Boys’ Basketball Class A2

Section V Class A2 heads to Victor High School for its final four. Two of the four teams won two sectional games to advance and will meet for the second time this season. Here is the breakdown:

No. 1 EAST (20-1/RCAC Lower) vs. No. 4 WAYNE (17-4/Finger Lakes East), 6:30 PM, Wednesday, Victor High School

Scoring offense: East (82.6 PPG), Wayne (67.8 PPG)

Scoring defense: East (62.2 PPG), Wayne (54.4 PPG)

Current streak: East has won six straight, Wayne has won two of three

How they got here: Dyllon Scott and Zechariah Harris-Scott combined to score all eight points in the second overtime as East rallied to defeat No. 8 Leadership, 68-61, in the quarterfinals.

Wayne opened with a 55-50 win over No. 5 Monroe in the quarterfinals behind Logan Blakenberg’s 22 points.

Players to Watch for East: Zechariah Harris-Scott Jr. F 19.3 PPG, 16 double-doubles; Dyllon Scott Jr. F 16.6 PPG, 11 double-doubles; Chaz Washington Sr. G 15.9 PPG, 1,188 career varsity points; Damani Barley Fr. G 11.3 PPG

Wayne: Logan Blakenberg Sr. G 18.9 PPG, 1,196 career varsity points, 14 double-doubles, one triple-double; Nick Carmichael Sr. C 16.0 PPG; Logan Holgado Sr. G 8.5 PPG; Billy Thomson Sr. G 8.1 PPG, 3.6 steals per game.

Scoring defense: Pittsford Sutherland (54.3 PPG), Wilson Magnet (69.1 PPG)

Current streak: Pittsford Sutherland has won five of six, Wilson Magnet has won two straight

How they got here: Pittsford Sutherland took down No. 11 Vertus, 76-45, and charged back to defeat No. 3 NE Douglass, 57-55, in the quarterfinals.

Wilson Magnet opened with an 88-50 win over No. 7 School of the Arts before outlasting No. 2 Northstar Christian, 76-68, in the quarterfinals.

Last time they met: Ben DiGiovanni led four players in double figures with 16 points as Pittsford Sutherland defeated Wilson Magnet, 61-53.

Players to Watch for Pittsford Sutherland: Kevin Ryan Sr. F 19.5 PPG, 1,156 career varsity points, 13 double-doubles; John Luther Sr. G 10.2 PPG; Ben DiGiovanni Jr. G 9.5 PPG; Matt Panara Sr. G 7.3 PPG

Wilson Magnet: Robert Davis Sr. G 17.8 PPG, 1, 661 career varsity points; Brennan Clark Jr. F 15.7 PPG, eight double-doubles; Malikk Johnson Sr. F 10.3 PPG; Arthur Wilson Jr. G 9.0 PPG

The winners will meet in the Final on Saturday, March 2, at the Blue Cross Arena.
