ROCHESTER – Wednesday night at Bath-Haverling High School, the Avoca Tigers held off Prattsburgh, 59-57, in the Steuben County division championship to earn Team of the Week. LaDre Stanford, Tristan Stark and Brady Brandow combined for 46 points. Stanford scored 17, hauled in 12 rebounds, dished out six assists and swiped five steals. Stark netted 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Brandow contributed 12 points. For the Avoca Tigers (18-2/No. 3 NYSSWA Class D), it was their first division title since 1990 when they won three straight. Furthermore, Michael Stowe’s squad avenged a 61-60 loss to the Prattsburgh Vikings (No. 2 NYSSWA Class D/No. 5 PS SS Poll) from back on January 15. At the time, both squads were the top two state-ranked teams in the Class D poll. The Tigers enter sectionals as the top seed in the Class D1 bracket. Stowe’s squad plays the winner of Alfred-Almond/Kendall on Saturday night at 7 PM at Avoca High School.

Gates-Chili (No. 5 PS LS Poll) won back-to-back games in as many days against Webster Thomas, 88-87, and Churchville-Chili, 72-59, to secure the Monroe County Division II title. The Spartans enter sectionals as the No. 2 seed in the Class AA bracket and will play the winner of Webster Schroeder/Penfield. McQuaid (No. 24 NYSSWA Class AA/No. 4 PS LS Poll) took down archrival Aquinas Monday night and defeated Leadership Wednesday to win the RCAC Upper division title. The Knights enter sectionals as the No. 3 seed in the Class AA bracket and will play the winner of Webster Thomas/Victor. Greece Odyssey (No. 22 NYSSWA Class B/No. 2 PS SS Poll) defended home court against School of the Arts, 65-47, and won two straight road games over Honeoye Falls-Lima, 90-63, and local rival Greece Olympia, 72-68. The Leopards enter sectionals as the top seed in the Class B1 bracket and will play the winner of Livonia/Midlakes. Newark (No. 7 PS SS Poll) won a pair of home games over Geneva, 44-37, and Wayne (No. 10 PS LS Poll), 69-63, to extend its win streak to seven. The Reds enter sectionals as the No. 2 seed in the Class B1 bracket and will play the winner of Batavia/Palmyra-Macedon. Mount Morris (No. 9 NYSSWA Class D) defeated Pavilion Monday night, 79-52, and Perry Wednesday, 69-56, to win the Livingston County Division Three title. The Blue Devils enter sectionals as the No. 2 seed in the Class D1 bracket and will play the winner of Batavia-Notre Dame/Hammondsport.
