BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Dee Dee Allen scored 20 points, and Bryn Hayes added 11 as the Brockport girls’ basketball team opened its Monroe County Division III slate with a 51-37 victory over Greece Athena, Thursday.
The duo combined for eights points in the second quarter when the Blue Devils turned a one-point deficit into a double-digit advantage.
Trailing 13-12 after the first eight minutes of play, Allen scored six points and Hayes had two to pace a 14-2 effort in the stanza.
“We put a little pressure on,” Brockport coach Justin Laureano said of his squad’s performance. “We ratcheted up the defense a little bit. We were able to turn them over a few times. We’re better when we can get out and run and turn teams over.”
Emma Sodoma converted a rebound and putback for a 24-15 Brockport lead, and GG Allen went the length of the floor for a layup and the 11-point lead at the break.
But the Blue Devils (5-0), averaging nearly 65 points per game in their previous three outings, struggled to string together baskets in the second half.
“We didn’t have any easy buckets tonight,” Laureano noted. “We had to work for everything we had. Athena is really physical. They uglied it up on us a little bit.”

Athena also held Shaniya Lee (averaging 10.75 points in Brockport’s first four games) to two points.
“At the end of the day Shania will always give us something,” Laureano said of the junior forward who finished with eight rebounds and three blocks. “We talk about in the locker room if you’re having an off night and you’re somebody that scores a lot, find another way to be able to contribute to our success. Whether it’s diving on loose balls or whether it’s talking on the baseline in our 2-3. Whatever it is you got to find a way to contribute. She always finds a way to contribute.”
Emma Laureano connected twice behind the arc and scored all eight of her points from behind the arc. GG Allen had seven rebounds and five steals to go with three points.
Eryn Hogan finished with five points.
Hayes handed out eight assists.
My’Ana Davis paced Athena (1-2) with 13 points. Kelechi Dimgba had 10. Isabella Rubeis (8) and Hanean Ashkar (6) rounded out the scoring for the Trojans.
Athena hosts Batavia next Tuesday for a 6:45 PM start.
Brockport hosts Honeoye Falls-Lima for a 7 PM start also on Tuesday.
