Friday Wrap: Vogt and Penfield stun McQuaid; Melidona nods Irondequoit past Arcadia

CLASS AA

RUSH-HENRIETTA 1
FAIRPORT 0 
Cory Meintel scored an unassisted first-half goal, and Rush-Henrietta held on to upset Fairport for the second straight year in sectionals. Fairport took the first meeting between the Monroe County Divison I rivals this season. The two teams played to a scoreless draw on October 5th. Rush-Henrietta beat Fairport in penalty kicks last year. R-H will play Penfield in Tuesday’s semifinal. Meintel’s goal was the junior’s third of the season.

WEBSTER SCHROEDER 1
EDISON TECH 2
Malik Musa connected on a second-chance opportunity in the 62nd minute to snap a one-all tie. Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, Mabrook Saleh delivered the equalizer for Edison. The Inventors will play the Hilton-Webster Thomas winner. READ MORE.

PENFIELD 3
McQUAID 2 OT
Joe Vogt finished with two goals including the game winner in overtime as Penfield, which closed the regular season with three wins, advanced to meet Rush-Henrietta in the Class AA semifinals. Steven Kurz assisted on the game winner. Tai Little also scored for Penfield. Connor Thurston and Tahj Mounnarat both had an assist apiece. R-H swept the season series winning both games by the score of 2-nil.

CLASS A

EAST 0
CHURCHVILLE-CHILI 13
Dylan Rippe scored three times. Vinnie Mathias and Jacob Anthony added two apiece, and Churchville-Chili advanced to meet Pittsford-Mendon in the Class A quarterfinals. Andrew Vannest, Mario Cozzo, Seamus Parker, Colton McCane and Henri Koch each had a goal. Vainest collected three assists. Koch had two helpers. Cozzo, Gabe Correia, Gaven Egan, Seamus Parker and Alex Wellin had an assist apiece.

IRONDEQUOIT 1
GREECE ARCADIA 0 OT
Luke Melidona nodded in a second-chance opportunity and No. 12 seed Irondequoit (5-8-4) defeated fifth-seeded Greece Arcadia (9-5-3). READ MORE.

BROCKPORT 0
SPENCERPORT 2
Gino Pellett and Max LaRosa connected on first-half goals and Spencerport (t-No. 20 NYSSWA Class A) won its fifth straight and stayed undefeated in its last 12 games. Andre Strezoski and Ajan Rajamohan had an assist apiece. The shutout was the third straight for Spencerport (13-3-1) and 10th this season. Second-seeded Spencerport will host seventh seed Greece Athena in Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.

PITTSFORD-MENDON 3
CANANDAIGUA 2
Hayden Feck scored two first-half goals, and Pierce VanBenthuysen added another before halftime to lead Mendon. Matt Bamford, Dom Tabechian and Kevin Keneally added an assist apiece. Mendon will play top-seeded Churchville-Chili in Tuesday’s quarterfinal.

PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND 1 OT
Sutherland will play third-seeded Brighton in Tuesday’s quarterfinal.

WILSON MAGNET 3
GREECE ATHENA 7
Othman Belhseine and Dylan Rice collected a hat trick and an assist apiece to lead Athena. The duo combined for five first-half tallies as the Trojans scored six times in the opening 40 minutes. Mark Maio added a goal. Dylan McDermott had two assists. Yakup Simsek and Brian Piendel both added a helper.

AQUINAS 0
BRIGHTON 4
Caio De Medeiros had a goal and an assist. Nico Leone, Connor McQuillan and Sam O’Connor added a goal apiece to lead Brighton. Theo Viggiani-Cole and Lyosha Georas had an assist apiece. Brighton moves on to play Sutherland in the quarterfinals.
