What happens when you finish a week undefeated including a trip to the No. 2 team in the state where you come away with a tie? About the same thing that happens when you drop a 1-nil decision to arguably the hottest team in the area: You get shown the door.
Such is the case for the Marion Black Knights and Churchville-Chili Saints. Marion (8-2-1/4-2-1), ranked No. 15 NYSSWA Class C a week ago, opened its week at Williamson (11-0-1/8-0-1), No. 2 NYSSWA Class C. The Wayne County rivals battled to a 1-1 standstill. Marion closed its week with a 5-1 win over Kendall. Their parting gift: a no-show in this week’s rankings. Williamson stayed at No. 2.
C-C didn’t fare much better. The Saints (10-2-0/7-1-0) held the No. 8 spot NYSSWA Class A last week. They went 2-1-0. Their loss? A 1-nil setback to a Spencerport side which is undefeated in seven straight (five at the time to be fair – but why be considering) and had allowed just three goals in the six games leading up to their meeting with John Mahoney’s squad. Don’t go looking for Churchville in this week’s rankings. They’re nowhere to be found. Although you might hear some gnashing of teeth coming from the western reaches of Monroe County.
Greece Arcadia (7-2-2/3-2-2) might want to check over its collective shoulders. Despite going 0-1-1 last week (5-4 loss to an underrated Brighton side and a 1-1 tie to Greece Athena), the Titans jumped seven spots to the dreaded No. 8 in Class A. The same spot that proved a launching point (in the wrong direction) for C-C this week. The last time Arcadia ranked eighth (Sept. 17th poll), they went 3-0-0 and dropped to 15. Arcadia plays at Brockport on Wednesday and then hosts Pittsford Sutherland on Friday to close the week.

Brighton finally appeared grabbing No. 14 Class A. The polls came out Monday while the Barons were tangled in a back-and-forth affair at LeBeau Field with Hilton currently ranked No. 5 NYSSWA Class AA. Brighton (8-4-0) came out on the wrong side of the ledger Monday night falling 3-2 to the Cadets. It was the fourth one-goal loss of the season for Adam Hiller’s gang of 11 – two of those coming in overtime as the result of a penalty kick.
Speaking of the Cadets (10-0-1), the concern for Mike Ellicott’s squad leading up to the season was defense, having graduated their entire backline from last year’s Class AA finalist. Hilton has responded by outscoring opponents 27-6 so far. The denizens of LeBeau Field travel to Penfield on Wednesday and host Victor on Saturday to close the week.
Thomas Binkowski leads a Bath-Haverling (12-0-0/6-0-0) squad which outscored opponents 13-1 last week in three wins. Binkowski has 13 goals and 16 assists for the Rams now ranked No. 1 NYSSWA Class B.
Letchworth/Warsaw (9-0-2/5-0-1) moved into the rankings for the first time going 1-0-1 last week. Tim Eustace’s squad is ranked No. 12 Class B.
Greece Odyssey’s Leopards might have reason to complain as well as Churchville and Marion. Scott Mikulski’s band went 3-0 last week and clinched the Monroe County Division IV title for the first time in program history. The Leopards dropped from No. 5 to No. 16.
Williamson (11-0-1) will look to stay undefeated when it travels to North Rose-Wolcott on Friday. After a one week absence, Geneseo (11-2-0/4-2-0) rejoined the rankings at No. 16 Class C. The Blue Devils host Mount Morris (No. 16 NYSSWA Class D) on Saturday. Byron-Bergen/Elba (9-2-0/6-0-0) went 2-0-0 last week but dropped from eighth to No. 20 Class C.
C.G. Finney (11-0-0) moved up one spot to No. 4 NYSSWA Class D. Avoca (12-0-0) holds No. 12 Class D. Mount Morris (11-1-0/5-1-0) ranks No. 16 while Jasper-Troupsburg (11-0-1/8-0-0) dropped five spots to No.17 and Fillmore (9-1-1/4-1-1) also dropped five to No. 19. Belfast (10-1-1/7-0-0) rounds out the state-ranked Section V teams at No. 20 Class D.
