ROCHESTER – What do you get when you travel and play a cross-town rival to a draw then rally two days later to beat a divisional foe in a week where you won three without a loss? A drop of eight spots in the rankings. At least that’s how the NYSSWA assessed the Greece Arcadia boys’ soccer team’s efforts last week.

The Titans remained undefeated in their last eight games with a 6-0 win over Edison (6-2-2 with victories over Pal-Mac, World of Inquiry and Webster Thomas), a 1-1 tie with Greece Athena (undefeated in Monroe County Division III action) and a 2-1 victory over Pittsford Mendon (the Vikings had won three straight up to that point). All that and Arcadia dropped from No. 8 a week ago to No. 15 in this week’s poll. Matt Vergamini’s squad will get a chance  to avenge their only loss of the season when they host Brighton Tuesday afternoon for a 4:30 PM. On Thursday, the Titans welcome Greece Athena for a rematch.

No one understands Arcadia’s plight better than John Mahoney and Churchville-Chili. The Saints have rattled off eight straight wins and yet last week C-C dropped to No. 13 from No. 8 in the rankings. C-C checks back in at eight this week. Nine different players have found back of the net, and the Saints have outscored opponents 33-6 on the season. Colby Egan leads with eight goals and six assists. Dylan Rippe follows with six goals and nine assists. Churchville hosts Webster Thomas on Tuesday before traveling to Spencerport on Thursday and capping the week at home against Rush-Henrietta.

At No. 7 (up two spots) Hilton (7-0-1) remains the only Section V Class AA school in the rankings. The Cadets breezed past Webster Thomas to start last week and beat Fairport in overtime to take a game and a half lead in Monroe County Division I. Clarence (VI) is the top-ranked Class AA team in the state. Clarence lost to McQuaid in last year’s Class AA Far West Regional. Hilton hosts Rush-Henrietta on Tuesday and travels to Webster Schroeder on Thursday.

With wins last week over Livonia (4-0), Dansville (6-1) and Wayland-Cohocton (2-0), Matt Hill’s Bath-Haverling comes in at No. 2 (up two spots) in Class B. The Rams host Wayland-Cohocton and travel to Keshequa later this week. Greece Odyssey beat Newark (4-0) and Greece Olympia (1-0) to move up one spot to No. 5 in Class B.

Williamson stayed undefeated at 10-0-0 on the season with wins over Gananda (5-0) and Red Creek (11-2) and moved to No. 2 Class C. The Marauders face Sodus on Wednesday and  close the week against No. 15. Marion this week. The Black Knights (7-2-0/4-2-0) have won four of five. The last time Williamson and Marion met, the Marauders came away with a 2-1 win. The pollsters were kind to Byron-Bergen/Elba which dropped a 3-0 decision to Perry on Saturday. The Bees are ranked No. 8.

C.G. Finney moved up three spots to No. 5 in the Class D poll. Ian Lau Atenico leads Finney with 22 goals and nine assists to rank second in Section V individual scoring. The Falcons host Rochester Academy Charter on Thursday and close the week at Lima Christian. With wins over Caledonia-Mumford and Pembroke, Mount Morris moves to No. 9. The Panthers will have to rebound from a loss to Geneseo on Monday with games against Keshequa and Wayland-Cohocton last week. Jasper-Troupsburg comes in at No. 12 and Fillmore at 14. Section V’s leading scorer, Laure Stanford (25 goals/ three assists) leads Avoca tied at No. 15 in the Class D poll.
