ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Victor Alongi snapped a scoreless tie in the 55th minute, and Greece Athena (2-1-1/2-0-0) stayed undefeated in its last three games with a 1-nil victory over Brighton in Monroe County Division III action Thursday at Greece Athena.
Athena attacker Othman Belhseine broke down the Brighton defense taking on three of the Barons backline players before feeding Alongi at the 18-yard box for the sophomore’s first career varsity goal.
Sophomore Jared Burns registered his first varsity shutout for the Trojans.
Starting from the opening kickoff, Athena applied pressure. The combination of Belhseine, Dylan Rice and CJ Takatch created repeated scoring opportunities in the first half.

Brighton goalkeeper, Christian Burkhart made several saves, many of the point-blank nature, to keep the Barons in the match.
Brighton (3-3-0/2-2-0) shifted the momentum late in the second half with Mat Ochs, Connor McQuillan and Sam O’Connor creating a late push for the Barons.

Athena center back Yakup Simsek played a large role in the second half to stave off the Brighton surge.
The Trojans played the second half without starting center mid Dylan McDermott, who left the game with an injury. Rice also missed large portions of the match after the break with an ailment. Athena midfielder Alec Hefke was injured in practice on Wednesday and did not play in Thursday’s contest.
Brighton’s starting center mid Gabriel Barraclough-Tan left the game midway through the first half with an injury and did not return.
