
WEBSTER, N.Y. — Korey Canton (Greece Odyssey) allowed two runs on six hits over five innings of work, and DI Orange clinched the 2018 Upstate Baseball League championship with a 9-2 win over DI Grey, Saturday at Basket Road Field.
Canton struck out eight and walked two batters. After allowing a first-inning run, the right-hander retired seven of the next eight batters he faced. Canton worked a clean second inning and allowed multiple runners on base in just the first and fourth innings.
He finished with a first-pitch strike percentage of 2.439 over nine innings of work in the post season
Canton worked a base on balls and scored on a Walker Wright (Rush-Henrietta) first-inning sacrifice fly to give Orange a lead it did not surrender at 2-1. Orange took advantage of three walks and two wild pitches to add a run in the second.

Gregory Romero (Monroe) highlighted a five-run third when he plated a pair of runs with a single as Orange put the game out of reach at 8-1. Canton started the stanza with a walk. Andrew Sanchez (Rush-Henrietta) singled through the left side of the infield.

Anthony Roides (Fairport) and Jim Marasco (Webster Thomas) added a single apiece in the inning. Jake Veniskey (Webster Thomas) brought in a run with a ground out to the right side of the infield.
Marasco hurled two shutout innings to nail down the win. The right-hander struck out three and set down six of the eight batters he faced.
Sanchez finished the 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Canton walked twice and scored twice.
Shane Harisis (Eastridge) walked and scored a run. Marasco, Roides, Veniskey and Wright all scored a run apiece.

Robby Merkov (Webster Schroeder) drove in both of the Grey runs going 2-for-3 on the day. Jose Morales (Irondequoit) led the game with a base hit and came home on Merkov’s two-out single. Tim McClare (Gananda/Canisius College) scored the other Grey run.

In the completion of a suspended game played before to the championship, Roides brought home Caden Hann (Webster Thomas) and Orange scored two more runs to beat DI Red 9-6 in 10 innings. Canton struck out three over two innings to pick up the win.

Joe Conroy (Bishop Kearney) cleared the bases with a walk-off triple as DII Red erased a six-run deficit to defeat DII Blue, 9-8 and close the Division II season. Conroy plated Drew Wilson (Brockport), Christian Brown (Victor) and Dillon Fisher (Irondequoit) with his second hit of the game, a one-out blast to straight center. Trailing 7-1 in the the middle of the fourth inning, Red tallied three times in the home half of the frame before putting up single runs fifth and eighth innings to draw close.

Brown allowed one run on four hits over four innings in relief to pick up the win. Zach Harnischfeger (Greece Athena) went 2-for-2 with a run scored in the game. Tyler Cerame (Hilton) walked twice and scored twice. Cerame was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Ryan Merkov (Webster Schroeder) finished 2-for-3 on the day including a three-run triple in the fourth to stake Blue to a 7-1 advantage.

Merkov added an RBI single in the eighth. Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua) was 3-for-4 with an RBI double in three-run Blue first inning. Alan Michael LeFrois (Churchville-Chili) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Zach Allen (Greece Athena) had two hits in three at bats and drove in a run. Devin Cannon (Spencerport) had a hit and scored a run.
