Drew Treviso (Fairport) allowed one unearned run on three hits over five innings to pick up the win as DI Grey advanced to the Upstate Baseball League championship game with an 8-1 win over DI Gold, Thursday night at Basket Road Field. Treviso struck out four, walked three and Grey handed Gold its first loss of the season. With a pair of runners on base and clinging to a 3-1 lead, Treviso closed his outing a pair of strike outs to end the fifth. Grey’s offense responded with five runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Robby Merkov (Webster Schroeder) cleared the bases with a triple into the right center field gap. Andrew Hebert (Webster Schroeder) followed with a near carbon copy hit. Treviso capped the outburst with an RBI sacrifice fly for the final margin of victory. Cullen Pease (Irondequoit) faced one batter over the limit in two scoreless innings of relief to close out the win. Pease and Treviso combined to limit Gold to one hit over the last four innings. Pease snapped a one-all tie with a two-run single in the fifth. Merkov and Pease finished 2-for-3 apiece. Jett Kopalek (Rush-Henrietta) walked and scored the lone Gold run. Grey will play the DI Red and DI Orange winner in Saturday’s championship game. The other semifinal was suspended after nine innings of play and will be resumed prior to Saturday’s championship game.

DI ORANGE 6
DI RED 6 (9 innings, suspended-to be resumed Saturday)
Nick Ianiello (Penfield) capped a dramatic rally with a two-out triple to force extra innings. Ianiello’s drive into left center field plated Josh Ferris (Churchville-Chili) from first base as Red erased a five-run deficit in the sixth and seventh innings.

Trailing 6-1 in the sixth, Will Van Fleet III (Webster Thomas) knocked a one-out single to center. Armani Malinka (Greece Arcadia) followed with a bloop single, and Ryan Coughlin (Greece Athena) brought in a run with a base hit. Gavin Moore (Hilton) followed with a two-run triple to left field. Moore scored on an error to cut the deficit to one and set up Ianiello’s dramatics.

Orange took a 3-1 lead in the second when a pair of runs scored on an error, and Kevin Canton (Greece Odyssey) plated Evan Ziegelhofer (Webster Thomas) with a single. Korey Canton (Greece Odyssey) doubled and scored on an Andrew Sanchez (Rush-Henrietta) base hit in the third. Jake Veniskey (Webster Thomas) made it a 5-1 game with an RBI ground out. Anthony Roides (Fairport) started for Orange and took a no-hitter into the fifth inning until Jordan Maher (Midlakes) tripled down the right line. Roides stranded Maher at third with a pair of strike outs and a fly ball. The game will resume Saturday at 4 PM. The winner will play DI Grey in the Upstate Baseball League championship game.
