Roides leads Orange; HerrNeckar sparks big seventh

Anthony Roides (Fairport) struck out eight over three shutout innings in relief and highlighted a big fourth inning as DI Orange (3-3-1) rallied for its third win in four games at Basket Road Field, Monday night. Roides, who allowed a walk and a hit, retired seven of the last eight batters he faced to improve to 1-1 on the season. His RBI triple in the fourth was part of a nine-run outburst which saw Orange turn a three-run deficit into a six-run advantage.

Andrew Sanchez (Rush-Henrietta) started the scoring with an RBI double. An error on the play added another run. Owen Lyons (Geneseo) followed with an RBI base hit before Roides sent a line drive into right center to score the go-ahead run. Evan Ziegelhofer (Webster Thomas) added another run with a single, and Shane Harisis (Eastridge) brought in a run with an infield single. Sanchez finished with three RBI. Jake Veniskey (Webster Thomas), Gregory Romero (Monroe) and Kevin Canton (Greece Odyssey) scored a run apiece. Drew Treviso (Fairport) retired 10 of the last 11 batters he faced in a losing effort. The right-hander struck out five, walked two and allowed one run on one hit. Patrick Walsh (Gananda) connected on an RBI double, and John Bagley (Churchville-Chili) added a run-scoring single to pace Grey to 4-1 lead after two innings. Bagley had two hits including a double. Joey Alphonse (Greece Olympia) singled and scored twice. Jose Morales (Irondequoit) singled, drove in a run and scored another.

DI BLUE 3
Anthony Bonacci (Greece Athena) tripled to left field on the first pitch of the game, and DI Gold (5-0-1) went on to send nine to the plate and score enough runs to continue their unbeaten streak. Alex Vogt (Webster Schroeder) followed Bonacci’s blast with an RBI double. Andrew Wallman (Fairport) capped the inning with a two-out, two-run single to center. Tanner Frank (Brighton) started and picked up the win striking out five and allowing two runs on two hits over four innings. Drew HerrNeckar (Hilton) sparked a seven-run seventh as Gold put the game out of reach. HerrNeckar, Wallman and Nate Sherman (Medina) finished with three RBI apiece on the night. Sherman and Vogt both scored twice. Caleb Richardson (Greece Athena) and Vogt both pitched a scoreless inning of relief. DI Blue’s Jared Drake (Fairport) finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. DI Blue left the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings. Bobby Sellers (Brockport) walked twice, collected an RBI and scored a run.
