Athena and MCC alum Johnston pitches Jamestown into PGCBL final

Former Greece Athena Trojan and Monroe CC Tribune Colin Johnston (Tusculum) picked up the win in the deciding game of Saturday’s Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League’s (PGCBL) semifinals.

The right-hander allowed one run on two hits over three innings of relief in an 11-5 Jamestown Jammers victory over the Geneva Red Wings. He entered game with bases loaded and no outs in the second inning and minimized the damages.

He retired the side in order in the third and set down six of the next seven batters he faced.

Jamestown scored three runs in the second and three more in the third to take a lead they did not surrender.

Johnston, a First Team All-County performer at Greece Athena in 2014 and 2015, was 13-9 over two seasons at Monroe Community College including a 9-3 mark when the Tribunes advanced to 2016 NJCAA DII World Series.

Johnston made 16 appearances with Jamestown during the regular season going 2-1. He struck out 20 and walked eight in in 24.2 innings of work. He made 18 appearances with the Jammers in 2017. He struck out 18, walked 11 and finished with five saves last season.

Saturday’s trip to the mound was Johnston’s third in the 2018 postseason.

Jamestown will play Amsterdam in the PGCBL Championship Series which opens Monday night at Shuttleworth Park.
