Jorge Oropeza (Greece Athena) drove in a pair of runs, including the eventual game winner in the sixth as DI Gold improved to 2-0 on the season. Oropeza’s two-out triple in the sixth scored Nate Sherman (Medina), and Gold held on from there. Sherman reached on an error to start the frame, and stole a base before coming home.

Jack Willard (Webster Schroeder) struck out three and scattered three hits over three shutout innings to pick up the win. The right-hander walked one and faced two batters over the limit throwing 43 pitches – 31 for strikes. Alex Vogt (Webster Schroeder) allowed one run on two hits over two innings to register the save. Joe Thompson (Webster Schroeder) tripled and scored on an Oropeza single in the second. Oropeza eventually came home on a wild pitch to give Gold a 2-0 lead heading into the third inning. Jake Veniskey (Webster Thomas) cut the margin in half with a sacrifice fly in the fourth for DI Orange. Jim Marasco (Webster Thomas) walked and scored on a Veniskey double in the seventh inning.

Max Stuver (McQuaid) struck out three over two shutout innings in relief. The right-hander faced two over the minimum and threw 24 pitches (17 strikes). Shane Harisis (Eastridge) finished 3-for-3 on the night.

DII RED 8
DII BLUE 5
DII Red put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in a pair of early innings and held off DII Blue late to start the season with their second straight win. Zachary Harnischfeger (Greece Athena) drove in a run with a single as part of four-run second when DII Red took advantage of three errors to score four runs. Mark Veerkamp (Webster Thomas) plated a run with a double, and Christian Brown (Victor) brought in two with a single when Red added three more in the third to take a lead they did not surrender at 7-4. Tied at four Joe Leuzzi (McQuaid) walked and stole a base to start the third. Ethan Behnke (Victor) singled to set up Veerkamp for the go-ahead run. After Chase Playfair (Penfield) walked. Brown capped the inning with a base hit to left field. Behnke allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits over three innings to pick up the win. The right-hander struck out three and walked five.

Ethan Hurwitz (Pittsford Sutherland) faced two batters over the limit over two shutout innings in relief. Joe Conroy (Bishop Kearney) connected on an inside-the-park home run and scored twice. Paul Conroy (Bishop Kearney) walked and scored. Jack Zawacki (Pittsford Sutherland) walked, had a hit, drove in a run and scored another. Jacob Jones (Avon) plated a pair with a two-out single in the second when DII Blue scored three runs to knot the game at four. Ian McNabb (Webster Thomas) drove in a run with a single in the first to give Blue its only lead of the game at 1-0. Devin Cannon (Spencerport) walked twice and scored a run. Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua) and Zach Allen (Greece Athena) both walked and scored a run apiece. Sal Cutaia (Webster Schroeder) struck out four and faced one batter over the limit in two shutout innings of relief. Scott Thyroff (Pittsford Sutherland) led the seventh with his second walk of the game, and Blue eventually loaded the bases.
