Smith hurls Lake Show to two-game lead

The Lake Monsters improved to 17-10 and took a two-game lead in the ICBL’s Rochester Division.

Mike Sabatine (University of Maine) connected on a two-out RBI double to snap a 4-4 tie in the fifth. Tommy Baxter (Dayton) doubled home two more runs in the sixth, and the Monarchs (15-12) cruised to the win. Tanner Cooper (Finger Lakes CC) homered, drove in three and scored a run in the win. Steven Kemp (Medaille) was 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Kalbfus (Gannon) walked twice and scored a pair of runs.  Caleb Lee (St. John Fisher College) faced one batter over the minimum in three shutout innings of relief for the win. The right-hander struck out four, walked none and improved to 2-1 on the season. Phil Ferranti (Monroe CC) doubled and finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to pace the Flyin’ Fish (14-12). Sean Sheets collected a hit, a walk and two runs scored. Ryan Hill (Monroe CC) doubled, drove in a run and scored another.

Tyler Smith (Niagara County CC) won his league-leading fifth game of the season, and the Lake Monsters (17-10) grabbed a commanding two-game lead in the Interstate Collegiate Baseball League’s Rochester Division. Smith allowed one run on four hits and faced two batters over the limit in five innings of work. He improved to 5-1 on the season. Jonathan Catapano (Monroe CC) doubled, tripled, drove in a run and scored another. Max Troiani (Bentley University) and Dan Freese (Cazenovia College) scored two runs apiece. Jourdan Plaisted (Elmira College) and Zach Harter drove in two runs apiece as the Monsters won their second straight game. Donnie Moffat (St. Bonaventure University) struck out two and walked one over two scoreless innings in relief. Mike Magnanti (St. Bonaventure University) finished 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Monarchs. Tanner Cooper (Finger Lakes CC) homered for the second time in as many games on the night. Tyler Cyrus (John Carroll University) walked, had a hit and scored a run. Devin Kelly (Finger Lakes CC) walked and scored a run.
