PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University men’s basketball standout B.J. Johnson has accepted an invitation to join the Charlotte Hornets for the NBA Summer League. Johnson will make his debut with the Hornets on Friday, July 6 in Las Vegas.
Johnson was a two-time First Team All-Big 5 selection for the Explorers, concluding his career at La Salle with 1,070 points to rank in the Top 50 in school history. The 6-7 forward averaged 20.8 points per game as a senior, the most for a La Salle player since the late Rasual Butler scored 20.9 points per contest in 2001-02.
In addition to his scoring exploits, Johnson was one of the top rebounders in the Atlantic 10, pulling in 8.3 per outing. He shot nearly 45 percent from the field and almost 87 percent from the free throw line, and registered 17 games in which he scored 20 or more points. For his efforts, he earned a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team and was one of five players named to the All-Academic Team. Johnson graduated from La Salle in May with a bachelor’s degree in finance.
Charlotte will return to Las Vegas for Summer League for the first time since the summer of 2014, as all 30 NBA teams will participate in the event this year. The team will play a minimum of five games, starting with three preliminary contests from July 6-9. The teams will then be seeded in the tournament, which starts on July 11 and concludes with the championship game on July 17.
