ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Mike Sabatine helped Faiport to a share of the Monroe County Division I title. Tommy Baxter led Webster Schroeder to the Division II crown. Cole Penders and Jared Petrichick were in the middle of a fiercely competitive Division III race. Jake Humes and Owen VanNewkirk paced Batavia and Honeoye Falls-Lima in Division IV. The six earned Player of the Year honors for their respective divisions as decided upon by the Monroe County coaches.
Sabatine hit .463 (31-for-67) on the season and scored 33 runs. The University of Maine commit stole 18 bases in 18 attempts. Also named the Class AA Player of the Year, Sabatine finished with 10 walks and an on-base percentage of .538. The senior outfielder was joined on the first team by fellow Red Raiders Jake Schuler and Tyler Smith. The Penfield Patriots and Victor Blue Devils also shared the DI title. The Blue Devils went on to win the Class AA title and advanced to the NYSPHSAA semifinal. Blue Devils Tommy Ryan, Louie Schafer and Chris Varone each earned a spot on the first team. Patriots Patrick Bowes, Brendan Miller and Gage Ziehl were named to the first team. Pat Sherron and Raymond Specht represented Rush-Henrietta while Hilton’s David Stirpe rounded out the Division I first team.
Baxter, who will continue his career at University of Dayton, hit .452 on the season with four doubles, two triples and a home run. The Schroeder shortstop scored 20 runs and drove in another 15. He compiled 15 walks and seven stolen bases. Schroeder teammates Alex Vogt and Jack Willard were also named to Division II first team. The Irondequoit Eagles also placed a trio on the first team with Chris Butler, Chad Gartland and Nick Serce getting nods. Greece Arcadia’s Justin Augustine and Drew Southcott earned first team spots as did Ryan Hill and Devin Mulcahy from Webster Thomas. Churchville-Chili’s Jake Carroll and Spencerport’s Jason Nau were also named first team.

Penders led Brockport to 13-7 regular season mark No. 3 seed in Class A1. The infielder hit .451 on the season with five doubles, five home runs and a triple. He drove in 28 runs and scored another 27. Penders will play baseball at Brockport College next season. Petrichick, a Colgate commit where he will play football, hit .432 with five doubles, three triples and two home runs for a Mendon squad which finished 14-6 in the regular season to grab a two seed in A1. He scored 26 runs and collected 17 RBI and was also named Section V Class A1 Player of the Year. On the mound, Petrichick struck out 12 in 12.2 innings of work. Mendon teammates Hudson Bockmier and George Gines earned places on the first team along with Brockport’s Frank Lauricella and Sam Velletri. Canandaigua, shared first place with Brockport and Mendon. Three Braves, Cooper Crunick, Michael Sculli and Seth Vigneri were named to the first team. Graham Schild (Sutherland), James Sciortino (Athena) and Trent Wasserman (Brighton) all earned DIII first team.

Humes made 10 appearances on the mound for Batavia. The sophomore finished 4-0 and collected two saves. In 21.2 innings of work, the left-hander fanned 24 and walked just seven. Humes also hit .326 and drove in 14 runs while scoring six for the Blue Devils which finished tied for first with HF-L at 7-1. VanNewkirk batted .439 on the season for the Cougars which shared the division title. The senior catcher had 25 hits – 14 for doubles. He worked 11 walks while striking out just twice. He finished with an on-base percentage of .556 and .684 slugging. Batavia teammates Griffin Dellapenna, Sam Sallome and Jordyn Schmidt earned first team nods. HF-L’s Hayden Smith and Matt Worley joined VanNewkirk. Eastridge’s Jayden Fayad and John Montana along with Odyssey’s Korey Canton and Olympia’s Zach Wright finished out the first team.
