On the heels of a miserable homestand which they scored just five runs in 54 innings, the Rochester Red Wings will receive some offensive reinforcement if for only a couple days.
MLB.com’s Jarrid Denney reported earlier Sunday that Joe Mauer will join the Wings on their upcoming road trip.
The eight-time all star and 2009 American League MVP is expected to be in the lineup when Rochester visits Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a three-game set beginning Monday.
Mauer is hitting .283 with a .404 on-base percentage over 38 games this season when he suffered a cervical neck strain and concussion-like symptoms as the result of a diving attempt during a game on May 11 at Angel Stadium.
He has been on the DL since May 19.
A three-time AL batting champ and first pick in the 2001 MLB draft, Mauer played five games with Rochester in 2004. He is expected to appear as a designated hitter and play one game at first base later this week.
Mauer suffered a concussion in 2013 which forced him to move from catcher to first base. He won three Gold Gloves as a catcher. He is also a five time Silver Slugger recipient.
