On April 11th, the Fairport baseball team lost its Monroe County Division I opener. The setback was the third straight and dropped the Red Raiders to 2-4 on the season. Since then Brian Reed’s club has gone 9-2 and with four wins last week including a pair over then division-leading Penfield, the Red Raiders enter the final week of the regular season with a chance to share the division title. Leadoff man Mike Sabatine finished the week 9-for-14 with a double, triple and three walks. The University of Maine commit crossed home plate 10 times in a week which Fairport (11-6/6-3) outscored opponents 44-20. Four different Faiport pitchers notched wins: Drew Treviso, Zack Salisbury, Josh Van Bramer and Jake Schuler. Tyler Smith added six RBI.
WE DIDN’T FORGET ABOUT…
Owners of the longest winning streak in Monroe County, the Canandaigua Braves also had a 4-0 week and claimed a share of the Monroe County Division III championship. Dale Werth’s club has won nine straight. Their last setback coming on April 21st.
The Batavia Blue Devils went 4-o as well and improved to 6-0 in Monroe County Division IV action. Rick Sanders’s club hosts Honeoye Falls-Lima (5-1 in the division) on Tuesday with first place on the line.
Pittsford Mendon took two from Brockport and grabbed a share of the Division III title with the Blue Devils and Canandaigua. Hudson Bockmier collected six RBI in the Vikings 8-5 win on Wednesday.
The Williamson Marauders went 4-0 an leapfrogged into first place of the Wayne County League.
Newark has won seven in a row and knocked off Finger Lakes East-leading Midlakes, 11-1.
