Six take Monroe County weekly honors

Cole Penders paced Brockport’s offense. Victor’s Louie Schaefer connected twice for grand slams in one game. Graham Schild led Sutherland from the plate and on the mound. Nick Serce produced at the plate for Irondequoit. Alex Vogt helped keep Webster Schroeder unbeaten in Monroe County Division II play, and Zach Wright did double duty for Greece Olympia. The six earned Player of the Week honors for April 29-May 5th as voted upon by the Monroe County Coaches.

Penders and Schild shared Division III honors. Penders hit .571 (12-21) for the week with a pair of doubles and four home runs. The senior infielder drove in 12 runs and scored another 10 for the first-place Blue Devils.

Schild went 2-0 on the mound with 15 strike outs and two walks in 10 1/3 innings of work. At the plate, the senior hit .400 (6-15) with a double, two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored.

Schafer plated eight runs with two grand slams in Victor’s win over Irondequoit – the Blue Devils fifth straight triumph. Schafer finished the week with 11 RBI and three runs scored. The senior outfielder had two doubles among his five hits for the week.

Serce and Vogt shared DII honors. Serce hit .571 (8-14) The junior pounded out two home runs and four doubles. He collected nine RBI and scored seven runs.

Vogt finished 8-for-13 (.615) during the week. Among his hits, Vogt had three doubles, a triple and three home runs. The junior scored nine runs and drove in another 11.

Wright struck out 17 and nailed down Olympia’s first two wins of the season to grab Division IV POTW. He hit .357 for the week with three doubles, four runs scored and two RBI.
