Section V Roundup: Curtis, Rosa walk off; Messina and O’Mara dial zeroes

GREECE ATHENA 5 SUMMIT COUNTRY DAY (OH) 4 eight innings
Tyler Curtis plated Jake Wamser in the bottom of the eighth with a walk-off base hit as Athena erased an early deficit and improved to 1-1 on the season. Brandon Smith tossed four scoreless innings in relief for the win. Athena trailed 4-0 after three innings. The game was played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.

EASTERN HS (KY) 7 VICTOR 3
Santino Rosso finished 4-for-4 with an RBI. Nate Hampson was 3-for-4 and drove in a run. Chris Varone had a double and two hits in four at bats and scored a run. Andrew Westbrook started and struck out five over four innings. He allowed two runs on five hits and took the loss. Brandon Meeks, Nick Boyer and Drew Delaney pitched in relief. The game was played at the Cal Ripken in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

FAIRPORT 11 APOLLO HS (KY) 10
Omar Rosa finished 2-for-5 including a two-out, walk-off home run in the ninth inning to pace Fairport. Jake Schuler was 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and a run scored for the Red Raiders.  University of Maine commit Mike Sabatine had three hits in five at bats with an RBI and two runs scored. Ricky Lipinski was 3-4 with a double and two runs scored. The game was played at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
PITTSFORD MENDON 12 JACKSON COUNTY (KY) 1
A trio of pitchers combined on a one-hitter, and Pittsford Mendon improved to 2-0 on the season. Grady Smith started and struck out three while allowing one run on one hit over two innings. Nic Fereirra fanned five and retired all nine batters he faced. Jared Petrichick work three-up, three-down frame. Billy Dalton finished 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the offense. George Gines and Petrichick both collected a hit, an RBI and two runs scored. Jake Ring was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Hudson Bockmier, Nick Halstead and Kyle Wallman all had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Jon Surtel and Jacob Wilson both scored a run. Tim Mariani collected an RBI. Mendon scored nine runs in the sixth inning. The game was played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.
PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND 2 NORTH BULLITT (KY) 0
John Messina scattered four hits over seven shutout innings, and Sutherland improved to 2-1 on the season. Messina struck out three and walked none. The junior threw 84 pitches – 54 for strikes to earn his second win on the season. Davis Heyman collected two walks and scored a run. Jack Bergin singled and scored the other Sutherland run. The Knights worked nine base on balls in the game. The game was played at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
LAKELAND REGIONAL (NJ) 8 HILTON 7
Alexander Noto finished 2-for-2 including a two-run triple in the second inning as Hilton (2-2) jumped to a 6-2 lead in the third inning. David Stirpe was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Morgan Kunigan had a hit, a walk and scored twice. He also struck out two, walked two and allowed one run on one hit over two innings of work on the mound. Josh Battaglia singled and scored a run. Nic Rolloff collected an RBI. The game was played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.
JP STEVENS (NJ) 11 SPENCERPORT 10
McQUAID 4 JOHNSON CENTRAL (KY) 0
Ryan O’Mara fanned six and scattered four hits in a complete-game effort. The senior threw 74 pitches – 50 for strikes for his first win of the season. Drew Bailey finished 3-for-3 on the day and sparked a two-run with a leadoff double. Bailey scored two runs in the game. Noah Campanelli singled and scored. Charlie Merkley walked and came around to score. Ben Beauchamp and Tyler Griggs both had an RBI. McQuaid improved to 4-0 on the season. The game was played at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida.

CANANDAIGUA 5 IRONDEQUOIT 4
Fisher hurled two and a third scoreless innings of relief and delivered the game-winning hit for Canandaigua. READ MORE.
LAWRENCE COUNTY HS (KY) 6 MIDLAKES 0
Devin Kelly had two singles for Midlakes. Devin Hicks and Derrick Jones had a hit apiece. The game was played at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
KENTUCKY COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL 6 MIDLAKES 5 (nine innings)
Mike Deckert finished 2-for-4 with an RBI triple. Harrison Day was 2-for-5 with RBI double. Derrick Jones and Connor Young had two singles apiece for Midlakes (1-3). The game was played at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
WHITLEY COUNTY (KY) 8 LIVONIA 1
The game was played at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
