Prattsburgh breezes to Class D2 Championship

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Tournament MVP Mason Putnam and Garrett Socola combined for 51 points as the Prattsburgh Vikings defeated the Bradford Braves, 78-45 to claim the 2018 Section V Class D2 title Saturday afternoon at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.

Putnam scored 23 points including career point 1,ooo in the contest. He hit 7 of 15 shots from the floor and 8 of 12 from the free throw line. The sophomore guard handed out a game-high six assists and grabbed five rebounds.

Socola netted a game-high 28 points to lead Prattsburgh to its 10th Section V title all-time and first since 2015.

Socola scored 11 points and handed out one assist in the first quarter as Prattsburgh jumped to a 24-9 lead.  The senior forward connected on 13 of 18 shots from the floor for the contest including two of four from behind the 3-point arc. He added seven rebounds and five steals.

Kris Johnson registered a double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Prattsburgh outscored Bradford in the paint (46-16) and off turnovers (35-15).

Nathaniel Barber paced Bradford with 16 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Joseph Miller had nine points and five rebounds. Bradford outscored Prattsburgh on second-chance points 19-10.

Johnson and Socola joined Putnam on the all-tournament team. Barber and Miller represented Bradford. Avoca’s Nathan Nunn and Belfast’s Isaiah Leiseur rounded out the team.

Prattsburgh will play the winner of Clyde-Savannah vs. Honeoye matchup in Wednesday’s regional qualifier.
