ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Tournament MVP Derrick Chance led three in double figures, and the Clyde-Savannah Eagles claimed the 2018 Section V Class D1 title with a 69-47 victory over the Honeoye Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester Community War Memorial.
While his brothers Marcus and Camden struggled with foul trouble, Chance scored nine in the third quarter as Clyde-Savannah turned a single-digit game into a double-digit affair. He converted a steal and layup early in the stanza. He scored inside, hit a pair of free throws and nailed a 3-pointer before the buzzer to give the Eagles 56-38 lead.
“I knew my little brother (Camden) and older brother (Marcus) were in foul trouble,” the senior guard said. “They had to come out of the game. Senior leadership had to come into play. I just had to do a little bit more scoring than usual. I just had to put the ball in the basket and play defense.”
Chance hit 11 of 23 shots from the floor and two of seven behind the three-point arc. He grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists.

The team that played the year with just seven guys on the roster took advantage of late-season call-ups to get through the rough patch.
“I couldn’t be prouder of a group of kids than these kids because of everything we’ve had to go through this year,” Clyde-Savannah coach Tim Jackson said. “Guys coming off the bench came in and did a great job of holding it together. Derrick is my four-year starter. I was pretty confident they would hold it together.”
Honeoye kept the game close early. Tyler Rudolph knocked down a jumper to give the Bulldogs an 11-6 lead. Dom Trippi’s drive and layup maintained the five-point advantage at 13-8.
But the Bulldogs lost their best player when Jon Marble went to the floor injured with 3:01 remaining in the first quarter. The senior guard did not return.
“They lost their best player, and we started playing with a little bit more effort,” Jackson added. “I thought we came out not as aggressive as we needed to be, and they were. They were there and then they lost their player. I’m just proud of these guys and how they stepped up and how they came to play all year.”
The title was the 11th all-time for Clyde-Savannah and third for Jackson. It was Clyde-Savannah’s first championship since 2014 when the Eagles claimed their second straight with the C2 championship.
Dru Carnevale added 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Carnevale collected five rebounds and four assists.
Marcus Chance, Jr. scored 12 points.

Rudolph registered a double-double for Honeoye with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Max Yale added 15 points for the Bulldogs.
Clyde-Savannah converted 26 Honeoye turnovers into a 33-4 advantage in points off ballhandling miscues. The Eagles also had the advantage in the paint (44-24) and in second-chance points (17-8).
Carnevale and Marcus Chance, Jr. joined Derrick Chance on the all-tournament team. Honeoye’s Rudolph and Yale earned spots as did Josh Hart from Mt. Morris and Cole Rathbun from Naples.
Clyde-Savannah will play Class D2 champion Prattsburgh in the regional qualifier scheduled for Wednesday night.
“We’re going to have to play a better game on Wednesday against a very, very good Prattsburgh team,” Jackson said.
