2018 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Field is Set

EDISON, NJ – The 2018 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship matchups are set. All 11 MAAC Men’s Basketball teams qualify for the Championship, which takes place March 1-5, at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY.

 

The top-five seeds in the Championship receive a first-round bye. Canisius College (21-10, 15-3 MAAC) and Rider University (22-8, 15-3 MAAC) earned a share of the 2017-18 MAAC Men’s Basketball Regular Season Championship. Based on the MAAC Tiebreaker Policy, The Broncs are the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Championship, and the Griffs will be the No. 2 seed.

 

First-round action begins on Thursday, March 1, when No. 8 Monmouth University (11-19, 7-11 MAAC) faces No. 9 Saint Peter’s University (12-17, 6-12 MAAC) at 5 p.m. on ESPN3. The Hawks and Peacocks split their regular season series (1-1).

 

The second first-round matchup features No. 7 Quinnipiac University (10-20, 7-11 MAAC) and No. 10 Siena College (8-23, 4-14 MAAC) at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. The Bobcats went (2-0) in the regular season against the Saints. No. 6 Fairfield University (14-15, 9-9 MAAC) meets No. 11 Marist College (6-24, 4-14 MAAC) in the final first-round game at 9 p.m. on ESPN3. The Stags and Red Foxes split their two meetings in the regular season (1-1).

 

Quarterfinal action tips-off on Friday, March 2, with No. 1 Rider taking on the winner of No. 8 Monmouth and No. 9 Saint Peter’s at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. No. 2 Canisius goes head-to-head with the winner of No. 7 Quinnipiac and No. 10 Siena at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN3.

 

Quarterfinal games continue on Saturday, March 3, as No. 3 Niagara University (19-12, 12-6 MAAC) faces the winner of No. 6 Fairfield and No. 11 Marist at 7 p.m. on ESPN3. The fourth quarterfinal matchup features No. 4 Iona College (17-13, 11-7 MAAC) and No. 5 Manhattan College (14-16, 9-9 MAAC) at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN3.

 

The first Men’s Basketball Championship Semifinal game on Sunday, March 4, airs live on ESPN3 at 7 p.m. and will re-air at 11:30 p.m. on ESPNU, tape delayed. The second Men’s Basketball Semifinal airs at 9:30 p.m., live, on ESPNU.

The Men’s Championship final airs at 7 p.m. on ESPN or ESPN2. The network for the Men’s Championship game is determined 7-10 days prior to the championship.
