Hobart College first-year guard Dan Masino was named the Liberty League Men’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week by the league office today. It’s the third time this season he has won at least a share of the award.
Additionally, junior Colin Dougherty earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
Masino averaged 19.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.0. apg and 2.0 spg in a record-breaking week for the Statesmen. At Skidmore on Friday, he produced 18 points, seven rebounds and a game-high five assists in a 78-62 win that clinched the Liberty League regular season championship. Masino was at his best in the first half against the Thoroughbreds, scoring a game-high 13 points before intermission, despite the game being interrupted twice by fire alarms. On Saturday at Bard, he shared team-high honors with 20 points and shared game-high honors with 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. The 82-72 win over the Raptors was Hobart’s 14th in a row, a program record. It was also the team’s 20th win of the season. It’s just the sixth time the Statesmen have won 20 games in a season and it’s the fastest the program has ever reached the milestone. For the week, Masino shot .652 from the floor and .700 at the free throw line.
Masino is one of four Statesmen to start all 23 games this season. He’s contributing 12.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 3.2 apg and 1.7 spg. He’s shooting .541 from the floor, .391 from 3-point range and .768 at the free throw line.
Dougherty also averaged 19.0 ppg along with 2.5 rpg, 1.0. apg and 2.0 spg last week. Against the Thoroughbreds, he produced a game-high 22 points, four rebounds and a game-high four steals. Dougherty scored 16 points the following afternoon against the Raptors. For the week, Dougherty shot .400 from the floor, .444 from 3-point range and .778 at the free throw line.
Dougherty is averaging 16.4 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.8 apg and 1.1 spg this season. He’s shooting .455 from the floor, .387 from beyond the 3-point arc and .786 at the line. Dougherty is fifth in the Liberty League in field goal percentage, seventh in scoring average and ninth in free throw percentage.
Dougherty’s 38 points last week moved him up three spots on Hobart’s career scoring list to No. 15 with 1,156 points, nine behind No. 14 Jason Harris ’95.
The Statesmen (20-3, 15-1) will wrap up the regular season with a pair of home games this weekend. Hobart will host Vassar (8-15, 7-9) at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16. On Saturday, Feb. 17, the Statesmen will take on Union (14-8, 10-6) at 4 p.m.
