SCHENECTADY, NY – The RIT women’s hockey team (4-15-3) fell to Union College (5-12-3) Saturday afternoon from Messa Rink. Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) scored the lone goal for RIT on a power play seven minutes into the first period off of an assist from Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) and Victoria Haywood.

Shots were 34-30 in favor of Union. RIT was 1-for-5 on the power play compared to Union who was 0-for-2. Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) had the loss for RIT with 32 saves. Union’s Coco Francis stopped 29 shots for the win.

Cornine opened the scoring with her team-best seventh goal of the season, 7:06 into the game. Just 2:08 later, Union’s Makayla Mori tipped in a shot from Arianna Koskakowski to tie it 1-1. The two teams went into the first intermission tied 1-1, as Union held a slight 11-8 edge in shots.

With 3:42 to go in the second period, Union’s Cheyenne Harris scored off assists from Caitlyn McLaren and Katelynn Russ to take the lead 2-1. That goal would prove the game-winner.

One of RIT’s best chances in the second period came from Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson High School) who sped down one on one to take a shot but Francis made the save to keep Union up 2-1.

With 2:27 left in regulation, Union was called for two penalties, putting RIT on a 5-on-3 for a full two minutes. With 1:49 left, RIT pulled Lanteigne from the net to make it a 6-on-3 advantage. Despite multiple shots on goal, the Tigers couldn’t get past Francis who kept Union up by one for a final score of 2-1.

RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools 10-5-2.

The Tigers are off until Jan. 12-13 when they travel to Erie, Pa. to take on College Hockey America foe, Mercyhurst University. RIT plays its final 12 regular season games against CHA opponents.
