BUFFALO, NY – The Villa Maria College men’s and women’s basketball team once again find themselves ranked in the top-five of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Coaches Poll. The men’s team is ranked first for the second consecutive week while the women are ranked fourth.

The men’s team is 9-1 and 3-0 in the Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference to open the season. They have wins over USCAA, NAIA and NCAA opponents.
The women’s team has started the season 6-2 and has won five of it’s last six games with having played just one home game this season. They have registered wins over NCAA, NAIA and USCAA opponents as well.
The men’s team has four players averaging in double-figures with junior guard DeJaun Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) leading the way, scoring 18.3 per game while shooting 44.3 percent from three. Junior forward Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, GA/Bainbridge High School) is scoring 17.5 points per game.
Junior forward Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) leads the women’s team, and is third nationally in scoring, netting 26.3 points per game. She is also leads the team in rebounding (11.4), assists (7.0), steals (4.0) and threes made (28).
The men next play in the Penn State Beaver Classic on December 15th and 16th. They will play Penn State Beaver on the 15th before playing Penn State Fayette on the 16th.
The women travel to Jamestown, NY for two games this weekend as part of the Tom D’Angelo Memorial Tournament. They will take on Pitt-Titusville on Saturday at 12 p.m. and will play in either the consolation (11 a.m.) or championship game (3 p.m.) on Sunday.
