CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army West Point junior guard Jordan Fox was selected as the Patriot League Men’s Basketball The Rock Player of the Week, while Colgate freshman guard Jordan Burns picked up The Rock Rookie of the Week when honors were announced by the League office on Monday.
Fox scored a career-high 33 points in the Black Knights’ victory over Marist to earn his second career player of the week honor. Meanwhile, Burns averaged 20.0 points per game during the Raiders’ 2-0 week to gain his first weekly honor.
Lehigh junior guard Kyle Leufroy was selected as a weekly honorable mention after averaging 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists during the Mountain Hawks’ 2-1 week. Bucknell senior guard Stephen Brown was impressive in losses to No. 9 North Carolina and Maryland, averaging 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists over the two games to earn a spot on the honorable mention list.
The Patriot League Men’s Basketball The Rock Player and Rookie of the Week awards are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their own student-athletes.
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL THE ROCK PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Fox, Army West Point, Jr., G, 6-1, Jackson Country, Ky./Jackson Country (USMAPS)
Fox scored a career-high 33 points, while matching an Army West Point single-game record with nine made 3-pointers, in a 94-73 win over Marist. He also added five rebounds and five assists in the victory. Fox also scored 10 points, to go along with six rebounds and five assists in a win over John Jay College. The junior guard averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game during the Black Knights 2-0 week.
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL THE ROCK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK,
Jordan Burns, Colgate, Fr., G, 6-0, San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall
Burns averaged a team-leading 20.0 points per game to help Colgate defeat Cornell and UMBC last week. He shot 68 percent (17-of-25) from the field and 50 percent (3-of-6) from distance in two games. The freshman guard scored a career-high 26 points on 12-of-15 shooting to lead the Raiders past the Retrievers on Sunday after posting 14 points in a victory over the Big Red.
WEEKLY HONORABLE MENTION
Kyle Leufroy, Lehigh, Jr., G, 6-3, Pasadena, Calif./Benicia/Prolific Prep
Leufroy averaged 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game to help the Mountain Hawks go 2-1 last week, with wins over Siena and Eastern University. In a win against Siena, Leufroy tied a career-high 23 points, including 14 in the second half to force the game to overtime. He also added eight rebounds against the Saints.
Stephen Brown, Bucknell, Sr., G, 5-11, Manassas, Va./Christ Chapel
Brown scored a career-high 23 points and had six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while holding Maryland point guard Anthony Cowan to 2-of-7 shooting in an 80-78 loss at Maryland on Saturday night. The senior guard also finished with 11 points and eight assists in a loss to No. 9 North Carolina. Against the Tar Heels, Brown held last season’s NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player Joel Berry II to 1-of-11 shooting from the floor. Last week, Brown averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the two games.
