PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s guard Lamarr Kimble will undergo a surgical procedure and miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season after re-injuring the fifth metatarsal of his left foot.
Kimble suffered the injury in the Hawks’ season opener at Toledo last Friday. He had the same injury occur on February 11, 2017 which required surgery and caused him to miss the final seven games of the season.
“I’m very disappointed for ‘Fresh’ that all of his hard work and dedication from the spring, summer and fall won’t be shown on the court,” said head coach Phil Martelli. “He and his family recognize how much I, and we, value their partnership. His teammates recognize that all must come forward to fill not only the playing gap, but the leadership gap as well. I fully expect that ‘Fresh’ will continue to be a vocal and inspirational leader for this team.”
The junior captain from Philadelphia averaged 15.5 points through 24 games last season while recording 4.5 assists to rank sixth in the Atlantic 10. He scored in double figures in 20 games, while achieving new career-highs in points (26), rebounds (9) and assists (10).
Kimble, who was named to the 2017-18 Preseason Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team, scored 10 points in the Hawks’ opening game at Toledo.
Kimble was one of four Hawks to suffer season-ending injuries in 2016-17, including backcourt mate Shavar Newkirk (ACL). Newkirk returned to action at Toledo, but the Hawks are still without sophomore Charlie Brown, Jr., whose wrist injury will be re-evaluated next week to determine his return to action.
