Matt Abt named Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior defenseman Matt Abt (Leduc, Alberta/Whitecourt Wolverines) of the RIT men’s hockey team was named the Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, for the week ending Nov. 12, 2017. It is Abt’s second weekly honor of the 2017-18 season and third of his collegiate career.

Abt tallied a goal and an assist, was plus-4, had five blocks and helped keep Robert Morris’ top line in check during a weekend sweep of the Colonials. He was plus-2 and blocked three shots in a 5-3 win Friday. Saturday, Abt scored a goal, added an assist, was plus-2 and had a pair of blocks in a 5-2 win. Abt now has four goals and two assists for six points in nine games this season for the Tigers, who are 5-3-1 overall and 5-1-0 in Atlantic Hockey play.

Abt and the Tigers are right back in action this weekend, as they venture out west to take on league foe Air Force Academy for a pair of games. Both Friday and Saturday’s games from Cadet Ice Arena get underway at 9:05 p.m. EST.
