SANBORN, New York – Lanay Rodney scored 31, Sierra Green added 25, and the MCC women’s basketball team opened its Western New York Athletic Conference schedule with an 86-63 win over Niagara County Community College Wednesday evening.
Rodney finished 12-for-20 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the line while also tallying seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists. The point total was just three off her career-high, set in a game against Genesee last season.
Green continued her torrid shooting from beyond the arc. Fresh off a 36-point game on Sunday in which she hit 10 3’s, the sophomore added seven more from deep on Wednesday against the Thunderwolves.
Monroe led just 20-16 after the first quarter, but an explosive second stanza put the team ahead by 19 at the break.
Samirah Henderson hit a pair of 3’s and Erica Abitante also scored six for Monroe. Shalix Hines chipped in with five points, five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, while Torrie Cash added 11 boards and four steals.
